Greater Michigan Council

Latest update of what is happening in Scouting across the state of Michigan.

 1.  Welcome Frank Reigelman to Michigan!  Frank will join the Greater Michigan Council as the Chief Outdoor Program Officer beginning in April.  Frank began his Scouting career in 1982 as the Director of Outdoor Education in Kansas City, Kansas.  He also served as District Executive, Senior District Executive, Camping Director and Director of Support Service.  From 1995-1998, he served as Director of Program at Philmont Scout Ranch and from 1998-2000 he served in Bethesda, Maryland as Director of Field Service.  From 2000-2006 he served as Scout Executive in Roswell, New Mexico.  In 2006, he became the Director of Camping and Conservation and has served the last 2 ½ years as the Team Leader, Outdoor Programs at the National Office.  Frank is a graduate of Slipper Rock University with a degree in Recreation Resource Management.  Frank and his wife Drue have three Eagle Scout sons. 

2.   Chief Scout Executive, Robert Mazzuca visited Dearborn last week as the Great Lakes Council hosted the Muslim and Arab American Summit on Scouting.  Bob Mazzuca spoke at the event that promoted the Scouting program to community leaders and to help form scouting units within the community. 

3.  Our Friends of Scouting campaign has raised over $1,090,000 to date.  We finished the month of February 15% ahead of our 2011 progress.  We have raised over 30% of our $3.5 million statewide goal for 2012.

4.  Field Service Council Updates

     Field Service Council “C” will be holding a board social for Southwest Michigan and Great Sauk Trail Council’s board members on March 8th at Schuler’s in Marshall at 6:30pm.

5.  Transition Board Committee Updates

The Field Service Council (FSC) Organizational Committee following the February 21 Transition Board meeting, sent to the Legacy Council Leadership a roadmap of strategic topics to be addressed in the creation of Field Service Councils.  This document combined with soon to be finalized volunteer position descriptions and volunteer organization charts will provide the framework for FSC’s to begin slotting volunteers into defined positions and building the new structure.  Completion for position descriptions and organizational charts is targeted for March 30th.

6.  On Monday, March 26, 2012, the 2012 Building Character Celebration will be held in Grand Rapids at the DeVoss Center from 5:00 - 9:00 pm.  This event will honor our 2011 Eagle Scout and Silver Award Class from the 25 counties of the President Gerald R. Ford Field Service Council!  Governor Rick Snyder will be the featured special guest speaker at this event.  For more information click here.
